Remember learning about Maslow's Hierarchy of needs in school? Back then it was something I learned for a test, and quickly forgot all about. But now, looking back I'm a bit more interested in the top of that pyramid.

Self-actualization, according to Maslow, “might be phrased as the desire to becoming more and more what one is, to become everything that one is capable of becoming.” Self-actualization is basically to become the best version of yourself, and since each of us is different self-actualization manifests itself differently for each person.

At this point in my life I believe that my version of self actualization is in the creation and growth of my company, helping women create lives they love. Yours could be something completely different, an expression of your art, or being a mom.

Becoming more conscious and aware of my interpretations about reality is a concept that I was exposed to as a young kid, and when I say young I was about 11 and my dad made my brother and I attend a seminar about it for kids. 

He had the right idea, get them in young, start 'em early, but to my developing brain the place felt like a cult. This dude just kept telling me that I didn’t like chocolate ice cream, I just THOUGHT I liked chocolate ice cream and I was like, ugh, no bro, I like chocolate ice cream. You’ve lost me.

So I opposed any such discussions around perception versus reality vehemently until the age of 26. But in the year leading up to my exodus of my corporate oil career in March of ‘18, that changed.

I had been working on my mindset... but mindset is such a vague term so I’ll break it down a little further. I had been learning and applying concepts around becoming far more conscious of the stories I was...

Coming from a corporate background I've found that a lot of things I was trained to do in my career are no longer serving me now that I've made the transition into the glamorous life of entrepreneurship.

I want to share my top three in the hopes that some of these may resonate with you. Because once we become aware of limiting beliefs and behavior patterns that are no longer serving us, it is so much easier to change them:

1) We were told to fill the gaps where we had weaknesses rather than encouraged to play to our strengths. Every opportunity seemed like another chance to make you a more 'well rounded employee'.

When you own a business the mentality is so different. You know that your strengths are what set you apart and you can outsource any weaknesses. As business owners we don't need to learn everything, and if we try we are wasting precious time, energy and resources.

I would catch myself trying to learn something new that I hated, a couple hours into it I would...

One of the reasons that I named my business the Created Future Academy is because we all have the ability to create whatever future we desire.

First in our minds and then in our reality.

Our future only exists in our mind so we can really have any future we want... right?

It hasn’t happened yet, it isn’t real. Just like our interpretation of our past experiences, that isn’t real either, it’s in our minds. Sure it happened, but it's our interpretation of what happened. 

Dan Sullivan says that your future is your property. You can do anything you want with it. I really love thinking about life this way.
